How to Handle a Difficult Boss?
Anyone who has been in the workforce for any significant period of time has had to deal with at least one difficult boss. If you’re stuck in such a situation and want to know whether there’s any way to handle a difficult boss and still keep your job, keep reading.
Instructions
Step 1
Avoid getting angry. Getting flustered and upset can only exasperate the problem and cause you more problems down the road. Instead, look for ways to be part of the solution. If there is something particular that doesn’t mesh well with your style of work, try to figure out a way that the two of you can co-exist and still get the work done. Bring up your suggestion to your superiors in a supportive, non-confrontational way.
Step 2
Don’t take it personally. If your boss is quick to criticize and point the finger, don’t automatically assume that he has it out for you. That may just be his management style. Take the advice to heart, and see if there are some things that you may actually need to improve upon.
Step 3
Find a stress outlet. Stress and the workplace don’t mix, so find a way to vent your stress in a healthy manner. Take a brisk walk around the block during lunch, take a kick-boxing class after work or get a massage once a week. Do whatever it takes to get you out of the situation and allow you time to regroup physically and emotionally.
Step 4
Be confident. Believe in yourself and your ability to do your job, but don’t get cocky. Your confidence will show others that you are a force to be reckoned with, and help keep bullying bosses at bay.
